Our Story
Our group, Citizens for Carroll County, was inspired by the work of the Citizens for Belknap County. This non partisan group removed six extremist legislators from their county delegation, and blocked several more from gaining seats in the NH State Legislature.
Their fight began as a response to an attempt by extremists in office to attack the Gunstock ski area, which is a beloved year round recreation area for its citizens.
There are parallels here in Carroll County, where our county commissioners seriously damaged our county nursing home, Mountain View Community, while the majority of the delegation members (who are the state representatives for Carroll County) remained silent.
The commissioners, working with several delegation members, devised a plan to sell the historic courthouse in Ossipee to a private school for $1. Citizens in the county felt that much more could have been done to provide other nonprofits an opportunity to bid on the property. This could have resulted in a sale closer to the value of the property, assessed at $220,000.
Former Commissioner Matthew Plache resigned after the Attorney General’s office learned that he was the recipient of $30,000+ in ARPA funds approved for a county broadband committee. Mr. Plache then received the money to be a consultant for the group. Once again, there were crickets from the remaining commissioners and majority of the delegation members over what was clearly an ethics violation.
We need the citizens of Carroll County to help us install new leadership for our county government and for those state house representatives who remained silent.
This is why we are creating a nonpartisan alliance to elect responsible, moderate candidates from both sides of the aisle who will truly represent the citizens of this county.
